Flex Balsa -

Flax Balsa technology, with its End Grain Balsa Wood from Ecuador, also outperforms conventional PVC in terms of CO2 emissions. The carbon footprint of Balsa is actually climate positive, meaning it offsets more than wasgenerated to use it. generated to use it.

Lightweight boards designed from the ground up as Starboards lowest carbon-footprint boards. Natural end-grain balsa covers the bottom of the board, providing it with its overall stiffness and reduced weight. The full sandwich deck uses natural uni-directional flax fibres with carbon stripes to reinforce and stiffen the most stressed sections. Flex - Wood Technology, introduced by Starboard back in 1995, weighed a kilo less than the best boards at the time. Today, Flax Balsa continues the innovative push to use more natural materials in the most high-performance full-sandwich boards. Flax fibres, nature’s carbon fibre, are used in Starboard ‘s Flax Balsa boards along the rails and on the deck for additional stiffness. Crisp and responsive on the water, yet smooth and comfortable: Flax Balsa is a truly unique technology with a totally new feel.

Balsa - By turning the balsa grains vertically within the sandwich structure, Starboard's innovative end-grain sandwich connects the top and bottom faces with millions of vertical honeycomb-like pillars. The result: significantly higher mechanical properties than conventional petroleum-based PVC. At the same density, end-grain balsa has 3x shear modulus, 3x tensile strength, 20x tensile modulus, 2.75x compressive strength and 12x compressive modulus. Flax

Ultralight weight at a reasonable price and using more environmentally friendly materials. The bottom is built in full T700 uni-directional flat-woven carbon for maximum stiffness while the deck is 60% carbon, alternating between uni-directional and bi-axial carbon layers for optimized flex. The composite sandwich layers include the use of ultra-high density PET and Armacell foam. The latter is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. Lightest, fastest, most responsive: these full carbon boards use Toray T700 multi-axial flat-woven carbon layers individually optimized by orientation: board by board and size by size. So instead of being overly stiff like typical carbon boards, Starboard’s Carbon Reflex technology gives you flex when landing big jumps, spring when transitioning in turns, control when flying across choppy waters and an immediate response to your every input.
