The Cost of Getting into Wing Foiling
To start your journey of learning to wing foil, you need to consider a few aspects of how much it will cost. There is the first part of whether or not you want to pay for a lesson, and if so how many, and then the second question of how much will buying your own kit be.
The price can vary with the brand choice and style of component you decide to go for, some people will spend £1500, but some people may stretch to £5000, but we can break this down into why and how!
1. Lessons - £150 - £300
Whether you are an avid watersport lover, or this is your first watersport endeavour, everyone needs a lesson or two for wing foiling.
Grasping the basics in the correct way can only set the record for how you mean to go on and make your learning smoother. Plus, the foil can be a tricky aspect to conquer, with different foot positioning and weight bearings.
We would say most people need about 4-8 hours of lessons to be able to competently practice by themselves, and this would cost on average (depending on the company you go with), £150-£300.
What we offer:
2-hour wing intro lesson (non-foiling board) - £65
2-hour wing foiling lesson (board,wing,foil+ instructor) - £125
Hourly hire of wing foiling kit - £50/hour
2. The equipment - £1300-£3000
This is obviously the main aspect of the cost of getting into wing foiling. Luckily, there are only 3 aspects to the purchase: the board, foil and wing.
Depending on your preference and expectations for your kit, the prices can vary from each aspect being £1000 each, to getting a complete package on it all for £1699.
Currently, brands are offering complete packages for customers, with some great discount on the retail prices too, meaning that great quality packages are under £2000, with some inflatable board packages being under £1500!
However, if you are after the newest kit with all the upgrades and performance for intermediate wing foiling, then you will be looking at the more expensive price bracket of £2500-£3000.
With these packages, you may want to add on board leashes and bags, so that you keep your kit in the best quality.

3. The accessories - £150 - £250.
Although 'technically' all you need to buy to get wing foiling is the wing, board, foil and leashes; we SUPER recommend getting yourself some protective equipment. Learning to wing foil does also come with a few more risks as the foil is sharp, and the speed you can hit the water can be fast, and as such we recommend putting safety first.
We recommend a helmet and an impact vest to be fully protected.
Helmets are from £55-£100. Check out our helmet blog here.
Vests are £100-£150. Check out our impact vest blog here.
Cheaper with second hand kit!
We haven't mentioned that getting into wing foiling can be made cheaper by purchasing second-hand kit to start off with. This is a popular choice as when learning it is less scary to use equipment that already has some wear on it, but buying second-hand has a few more risks in that your kit might not match up, or have hidden issues you cannot see. We would recommend checking what you buy second hand and making sure it is the right size and type of kit for you and your package.
Buying second-hand also means you don't get any warranty, but this may be something you are willing to compromise on for a better price.
